Each project will have different requirements for wire and conduit sizing but typically we see #10 Cu PV cable for the solar panels, #10 THHN Cu for the solar to inverter homerun in 3/4" EMT. For the battery to inverter - for the Sol-ark 15k it is very important to get two sets of battery cable with 3/8" lugs. Most of the time we see people buying 4/0 for this but you may be able to get away with smaller depending on your system. For the AC side, 4/0 Al hookup wire is often used. Depending on factors, we see people using 1" - 2" EMT with the 4/0 cable. In some cases the hookup wire doesn't require conduit. Battery to inverter or busbar to inverter should be in conduit.

What battery do I need with the Sol-ark 15k inverter?

For the New England Demand Response Program, ConnectedSolutions, we recommend 60-80kWh to maximize the full incentive. Most systems are at least 30kWh with the Sol-ark 15k, but we've seen them as large as 240kWh. The typical battery is a 5.12kWh lithium LFP battery module with BMS. Pytes, Renon, Pylontech, Deye and others have UL9540 certification with the inverter. In some cases people are using AGM or Flooded Lead Acid batteries due to temperature or EMP concerns.

Do I need any additional surge protection with the Sol-ark?

Yes, even though the Sol-ark comes with surge protection built in it is small and not visible. Solamp recommends one 600v DC SPD for each series string of solar panels, installed in the pass through or junction box, one 300v AC SPD for the load out, one for the grid in, and one for the generator (if used). If your subpanel or main panel are not close to the inverter, put an extra 300v AC SPD in each of them. Put one, or more, 115v DC SPD 's on the batteries. The only time you would need a 300v DC SPD is if you had a low voltage solar panels, which you would likely not be using with this beast of an inverter.
