Ultimate Guide to the MidNite Solar Rosie inverter

with tips on adding in a MidNite Charge Controller

At Solamp we enjoyed our time using the Rosie this summer. It is a great little inverter, and we can’t wait to get some hands on with the new Little Rosie. It can be a little confusing to figure out what parts you need for your project, so we put together this Ultimate Guide to the MidNite Solar Rosie inverter, with tips on adding in a MidNiet Charge Controller.

The Rosie RE is the inverter only and does not include breakers, disconnects or meters. We do not recommend getting just the inverter as it’s a big project to put it together and it’s the same price for the Rosie Pre Wired power panel. We sell them by themselves because some larger systems will use multiple inverters, but for a single Rosie system they should just get pre-wired.

The Rosie M is the mobile version of the Rosie. You can read all about the difference between the M and RE in the installation manual. The Mobile version is for RV’s, Campers, Boats while the RE is for homes and cabins, with the primary difference being how the AC neutral to ground is configured.

The Rosie 300 is the e-panel for the Rosie. This is the box that attaches to the inverter and backplate and allows for your system disconnects, shunt and other electrical parts to have a home. The 240P style is for a single Rosie inverter. The 240P100 is for the leader in a two-inverter setup and the 240F is for the follower in a two-inverter setup.

The Rosie Backplate is a backplate that attaches the Rosie inverter to the e-panel. You will need one for each inverter.

The MNGP2 is for communication, programing and display. You will need one per system. If you are getting the Hawke’s Bay or Barcelona Prewired controllers it already includes an MNPG2 so you won’t need another one. You will also need Surge Protection Devices. These are pre-installed in the pre-wired system.

The Rosie Pre-wired is the Rosie RE inverter, e-panel, backplate and MNPG2 all wired together and ready to go. You can get the pre-wired without a charge controller or wired with one or two Classic 150, 200 or 250 charge controllers. Use the Classic charge controller calculator to determine how many controllers you need. You will need some type of charge controller if you want to attach solar to this system.

Larger systems may want to go with the high voltage Barcelona or Hawke’s Bay controller. Like the Rosie, you can get the Barcelona pre wired as well as Hawke’s Bay pre wired, which we recommend. The Hawkes Bay controller comes in 90 or 120amps and the Barcelona controller is 200 amps. You can buy the parts and wire them yourself if you want to, but most people won’t do this. The prewired already comes with the MNPG2, breaker box, backplate and surge protection devices installed. You would only really buy the parts themselves if you had a big system that didn’t need the extra controller.

Solamp also sells a Rosie Pre-wired System that includes PowerFlo-16 or PowerFlo-5 batteries, and can be configured with optional battery combiner boxes. Nice savings buying the whole system.
